Final Thoughts on Summer 2013 Anime

The summer anime season has finally concluded, and with it, many good shows and many others that weren't very good. As always, I am here to deliver my final opinions of all the shows included in the summer anime season.

Ongoing Anime:

Gifuu Doudou!!: Kanetsugu to Keiji

I'm a bit shocked that this series got another season. It's just so....boring. The time spent watching this show feels long and dragged out. Not to mention I constantly space out while watching this, so I usually have no idea of what is going on. I just might drop this show sooner or later.

Monogatari Series: Second Season

Well, I'm liking it so far. This season of the Monogatari series has more aspects of the first season, which pleases me greatly. Though, this season of the anime made me realize one thing: Nadeko is extremely annoying. Her innocence, whether intended or not, irks the hell out of me. On the positive side, I have more, non-pedophilic love for Mayoi.

Uchuu Kyoudai

I have to admit, all of this drama with Sharon breaks my heart. Also, the stuff going on with Hibito is quite upsetting as well. This show certainly knows how to play on one's heartstrings. Come to think of it, this is, so far, the longest show I have watched from the beginning while airing. I wonder...how much longer will this show go on?

Completed Anime:

Blood Lad

It was a pretty good series, well-balanced with action and comedy. Bell and Wolf were my personal favorite characters. My only complaints with it are the length of the series (10 episodes is too short!) and the monstrous size of the heroine's breasts.

Brothers Conflict

This show was my ultimate rage and laugh material. I haven't had this much fun watching and talking about an anime in a long time. I'm honestly gonna miss this show, and all of its typical plot and archetype characters. Of course, I'm mostly gonna miss the tranny.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation

This show was very boring. I'm not one who is very fond of moeshit, but damn, this show was even more awful than I expected. When it was boring me, it was giving me a headache. It was literally painful to watch. My saving graces were the vocal talents of Yuu Kobayashi and Kana Hanazawa.

Danganronpa

I have to admit, watching a whole bunch of overly exaggerated anime character archetypes kill each other and do murder trials was quite a promising concept (in my eyes, at least). I mean this show did get a bit out of hand or really weird a few times, but it was certainly an interesting watch.

Fantasista Doll

This show was poorly done. The character interactions are so damn shoddy, it's hard to focus on the plot, which is already difficult to understand. It hardly made any sense to me, but since its aimed toward children, I guess the creators thought it didn't need to make sense.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya

When I saw that this would be a spin-off of the Fate series, I had some...expectations if you will. I mean yes, this is a magical girl spoof thing, but aside from the characters referencing Fate/stay night, this was pretty much a very typical somewhat ecchi magical girl show. The best part, for me anyway, was the opening.

Free!

Swimming with some homosexual undertones. This show goes into the same category as Hakkenden and Makai Ouji, shows that tease shounen ai and/or yaoi. Though, this one was more likeable due to some female characters that were actually significant, and one male character that was genuinely likable (Makoto ♥). Also, the fact that they focused on the swimming more than expected was wonderful.

Gatchaman Crowds

I adored this series. Not only was it colorful and crazy, but it was just generally fun. Sometimes, when watching the show, I wished I was in that universe where reality was treated like a game. It just looked like such a blast (for the most part, anyway). I also absolutely loved the ending.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

This show went from scary, to a broken record, to just...what? Either way, watching this series was a unique experience to say the least. For awhile though, it was the weekly death, it was really frustrating. The characters...Luna kind of creeps me out, Akari is...well, a bit generic, Seira is a tsundere, and Ginka is adorable.

Genshiken Nidaime

Seeing more Genshiken was a treat indeed, but I go by what I had said earlier, I liked the old voice actors better. Unfortunately, having a majority of fujoshi in the club did get a bit annoying at times. Regardless, it was enjoyable.

Gin no Saji

What do you get when you combine farming, school life, and the author of FMA? Pure genius. This show had everything, comedy, drama, great characters, and just a smidge (and only a smidge) of romance. If you didn't watch it this season, then I recommend you add this to your watch list. You shall not regret it.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince

At first, I really didn't like this show. After awhile though, it grew on me. The characters didn't, but the story did. This show had plenty of good and bad elements mixed together, but in the end, I could not possibly say that this show was below average. Sure, it had issues with the animation and a lot of the characters, but everything else (especially the music) was pretty good.

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2nd Season

This was certainly an improvement from the previous season, however, it was pretty much the same thing. Just another show that teases shounen ai, but never gets to the damn point. I'm not extremely fond of these shows, but this one came out pretty decent.

High School DxD New

Action, demons, and lots of boobs. 'Twas just more of the same, but in this case, that's not necessarily a bad thing. They changed it up a bit adding a bit more drama, and two more characters to the main cast, and it remained just as hilarious as before. Though, I think the ending was extremely typical.

Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou

A romantic comedy that features light beastiality. It's a harem-ish show where the lead...is a dog...who used to be human. Surprisingly, this show wasn't awful like I thought it would be. However, it wasn't necessarily anything special either. It had some good moments, but it was generally mediocre.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen

Seeing the Goddesses' arc animated certainly was a treat, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I do have a few complaints though, one of which (I had the same issue with the manga) is that Yui does not appear all that often. Yui is the best, and I'd like to see more of the best.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

This was one of my favorites this season; I absolutely loved it. It had great music, beautiful animation, and a brilliant story. I also loved the characters My only complaint is that this series is incredibly underrated. More people should watch this show, because it was a beautiful series.

Kimi no Iru Machi

The entirety of this adaptation reminded me how much I hated Eba (Yuzuki). Aside from that, it wasn't really done very well. The animation was shoddy, and a lot of the voices were extremely awkward. I did enjoy Asuka and Kyousuke (and sometimes Rin) though.

Kiniro Mosaic

Cute girls doing cute things...with lots of Engrish. I had high hopes for this show after the first episode. I was expecting it to be a modern day Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, but it turned out to be high school girls acting half their age with two exchange students (with some mild yuri undertones). Also, as I mentioned earlier, there was LOTS of Engrish. You'd think they'd hire an actual foreigner to do the job, right? Nope, nope, not at all.

Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku

This was probably the worst show of the season for me. Cute girls doing cute things is already boring most of the time already, but when you combine that with horrible voice acting and dull comedy, you get garbage. This show knew it was bad too, they even tried to end it an episode earlier....

Love Lab

This show certainly surprised me with its quality. I really wasn't expecting much, but this show turned out to be, at least for me, the best comedy series of the season. I also loved the characters, they clicked very well together.

Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist

This series wasn't good, or bad either for that matter. It was half interesting, half hot guys doing things, which pretty much isn't really my cup of tea. It kind of reminded me of this book I was reading called Brideshead Revisited, except with demons and angels. It was just...meh.

Mushibugyou

This show is straight up shounen. Though, that isn't really a problem with me since I really do love shounen series. I was very surprised at how far they were able to take the whole idea of man-eating bugs and...bug...people... Well, it was interesting, to say the least. Also, the Insect Magistrate is absolutely adorable.

Recorder to Randoseru Mi☆

Even though this was a short series, it was enjoyable in its own right. I enjoyed this season of the series a bit more thanks to the addition of some new characters. Also, the animation was cute, but it had derpy moments too.

Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS

Lolis playing basketball against other lolis. I probably would have liked this season a bit more if it wasn't so fanservicy, and if it was just...more interesting in general. I spaced out occasionally while watching this..and it wasn't really difficult to piece together what happened while I was spaced out. This show is pretty simple.

Rozen Maiden: Zurückspulen

Although it was a bit confusing at first, this edition of Rozen Maiden was very much enjoyable. The animation was a step up from the previous Rozen Maiden anime (at least, in my opinion), and we got the addition of the ever so frightening Kirakishou (she's a scary bitch), 'twas a great show. I hope there's a sequel, because that ending left one hell of a cliffhanger.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G

Well, it was certainly an improvement from the first season, but it was still ridiculous and stupid on so many levels. But, I can't really complain. It's not like my expectations for this were high or anything. However, they do get points for using bagpipes in their music this time around (uncommon instruments FTW). Also, the finale was very...sparkly and colorful.

Servant x Service

I really enjoyed this series, mostly for the romance though. The humor was also good, and the cast....I really liked three or four them, I didn't really have any interest in most of them, and a few of them were extremely annoying. Also, I absolutely hated the ending. Still, I enjoyed this show, it was definitely worth the watch.

Shingeki no Kyojin

Ah, yes, the most highly rated anime of this year (so far). I thoroughly enjoyed this, like the vast majority of its audience. It had a simple concept, but with a combination of great characters and gorgeous animation, it was executed in a brilliant manner. However, I'm not going to say that this was my favorite of the year (so far) just to fit in. I enjoyed this show, but there were others I enjoyed more.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu

This show was very...meh. It had good moments, but the main character annoyed the crap out of me. This is the first time in a long time that I just hated the main character. She started out generic, turned into a bitch, then went back to being generic. But hey, everyone else was okay!

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S

I enjoyed this sequel to the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun series a bit more than the first season. Why? Well, for starters, Kuroko wasn't being uber annoying this season. Also, introducing the members of the ITEM team was a plus. However, I'm not very happy that they ended this season with an anime-original arc.

Uchouten Kazoku

This show was certainly unique. I haven't seen a show with characters that seemed this realistic for quite awhile. They seem like folks you'd meet just about anywhere..apart from the tanuki and/or tengu part. The world this took place in, though it's very much like modern day society, is particularly beautiful.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

The fact that half of the entertainment I got out of this show was face-palming doesn't really say anything good about it. However, this show was pretty good. I still don't like the fact that Tomoko has made little to no social progress whatsoever, though.

All in all, summer was a pretty good season for anime. There were many great shows, and definitely some underrated shows amongst them (Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi and Uchouten Kazoku) that should've gotten some more attention. Now we can look forward to the fall anime season, and the greats and the not-so-greats to come.

Diabolik Lovers Episode 4 - Everything Goes to Hell (NSFW)

Well, I had a feeling an episode like this would happen sooner or later...
Not stalking, just watching
So it starts off with Heroine finally finding the phone she has been seeking since episode 1. As she attempts to use said phone, she notices the Emo Shota watching her, and is frightened. She tries to be casual about it, and the Emo Shota asks "don't you understand why I'm here?"  He tells her he and his "Teddy" are thirsty. She apologizes to him and the bear. He tells her not to address Teddy as though she knows him (well OK then) and that he's the only advisor he needs (not sure if acting like a child, or crazy, or both).
She gets Emo Shota coffee. He has a shit fit. He smacks the coffee out her hand, and starts yelling at her telling her he hates bitter things (then be more specific next time). He then proceeds to call her worthless. She apologizes, but he screams at her some more, telling her she doesn't mean it.
She asks what he wants from her, he tells her he wants her to figure it out herself. She offers to buy him something else, but he says he's no longer interested.
No, you're just extremely intimidating, bipolar, you dress like an Emo five-year old, carry around a bear and act like it's people, and are a vampire. I wouldn't call you the object of hatred, but perhaps a recipe for soiled undergarments.
He then asks her if the coffee splashed on her fingers, and if it was painfully hot (suddenly, he cares). He then licks her finger, and questions her whether or not she hates him, and if she wants to learn more about him (???). She tells him she doesn't hate him, and she would indeed like to know more about him. He then walks away telling her to make the effort to understand him (lol wut). Also, he left her bag on the roof...as punishment, also, the phone's been broken for weeks.
Serious Face: OFF
As Heroine goes upstairs and retrieves her bag, she notices someone singing love to the sky. Low and behold, it is the Fedora. She eavesdrops for a second, only for this to happen:
Serious Face: ON
My heart momentarily stopped when he said that
He discovers someone is watching him. She hides behind a wall, but he finds her. He grabs her neck, licks her, and bites her, sucking her blood. He seems to have realized something, and stops to think about it. Of course, Heroine uses this opportunity to run...into town. She finds a phone, and attempts to call her father.
SURPRISE!
The Fedora answers the phone.
How, you ask? You tell me.
Over the phone, the Fedora tells the Heroine that he knows everything about her.
She runs out of the phone booth only to bump into...Fedora..
He asks her if she enjoyed her short-lived freedom (so close...damn it).
*Sniff, sniff* I could swear I smell a plot in here somewhere...
Suddenly, a man by the name of Tougo Sakamaki appears on the giant TV on one of the buildings. Fedora explains that it's him and his brothers' dad, and that he hates him and blah, blah, blah. Then Heroine starts staring hard at the image on screen, muttering the man's name, she then mumbles "Karl Heinz.." (surprising Fedora) and passes out. Fedora looks at her with a stunned expression, and asks the comatose Heroine "who are you?"

Heroine then wakes up in her room, and runs out to perhaps attempt another escape. She finds a church outside, and goes in there to pray. Fedora arrives, and they argue about religion for awhile (an arguement I'm sure everyone has at some point).
Crap, his hat fell, I don't know what to call him now
During this confrontation, the fedora comes off the man's head. As things get worse in this religious confrontation, we see this guy again:
'eey, people aren't allowed in there!
Mystery man finds a hidden doorway behind a bookshelf. He walks through an absolutely gorgeously decorated hallway, and comes to a dress that is ripped up and bloody in the chest area. Who does this dress belong to? 'Tis a mystery.
Oh, so it's okay if he does this somewhere else?
Somehow, things escalated to rape. It was only a matter of time. He asks her if she's angry, tells her that her eyes are fascinating (they're pink), and to go ahead, that it's cute (?). He tells her to get angrier if she wants, and he even gives her permission to call him names (I think that fedora was holding his sanity) all while his face is flushed.
He tells her that no matter how hard she tries, she will never be a match for him, because he's inhuman. He begins to unbutton her shirt, all while telling her that she'll submit to him and show him places that she "has been too embarrassed to show anyone."
If this hasn't registered to you yet, she's about to get raped.
For real.
No joke.
Yup.

He kisses her thigh twice, then bites it. After he finishes sucking blood from her thigh, he asks her if it hurts (no shit, it hurts). He calls her a "poor thing" and tells her that he'll make it hurt even more. Heroine's eyes are tearing up, and she looks like she's holding in her urge to cry. Then the former Fedora lets her in on a "secret."
Well, in the case of quite a few churches, it's not like they don't have blood on their hands (get it? Blood? Ta ha ha!)
So it turns out, her church sent her to the house of rapists! Do you smell controversy? I do!
Heroine is shocked, and former Fedora is enjoying every second of this. He picks up where he left off, whispering to Heroine follow him down to hell. He then says that no one has been saved by their belief.

Episode rating 2/10, as much as I love religious controversy, I hate the rapey-ness of this show. I felt disgusting after watching this, like I want to take a bath...right now. On a less important note, what exactly happened in between this and last episode's events? They always seem to forget these things....

Diabolik Lovers Episode 3 - Deadbeat Brother

So this episode was dedicated to showing the audience that the Space Cadet is just as much as an asshole as everyone else!
Such a loving little brother he has
The episode starts off during dinner time. Surprisingly, the heroine is not said dinner. Suddenly after the routine molestation from the Fedora, the Space Cadet gets up and leaves, muttering "such a pain" (because dinner is apparently a chore). Then the Glasses begins the trash talking. He says that the Space Cadet is no good because he grew up spoiled rotten. Then (after the Emo Shota starts repeatedly jamming his fork into his plate while laughing like a crazy motherf****r) Glasses goes on to say that he (Space Cadet) won't even make the effort to attend their monthly dinner party (the nerve of some people).
You'd be third in line for that, buddy
As everyone leaves the table, Heroine attempts to go ahead and leave as well. Glasses stops her and tells her that her table manners are "deplorable," and that one day he will take her aside and discipline her...thoroughly. Which basically means he's gonna use that as an excuse to do whatever horrible things to the heroine. Nice!
Heroine catches wind of this, gives him the look and reluctantly says "Yes, sir."
Submissive as always, I'm afraid.
He's not asking, he's demanding
Heroine is sitting in her room, when suddenly, a wild Ayato appears. He demands to suck her blood, but she says she was on her way to the bath. Ayato does not care, he grabs her anyway. She tells him that she's been feeling faint lately, he tells her to shut up. He gives her hickeys on her chest (as "stamp marks"), while enjoying her sounds of pain (creepy as hell). He stops, and tells her that he'll do the rest after her bath, because he doesn't want t have to deal with her fainting again (that would be a problem).
He'll throw you in the pool again, missy
He tells her not to take long, because if she makes him wait, "you know what will happen."
I do not know what will happen, but I assume it's a illegal.
Heroine goes to the bathroom, and examines the marks on her chest with a grim expression.
Suddenly, she notices the Space Cadet is in the filled bathtub (with his clothes on).
He's funny, this one
Heroine asks him what he's doing there. He says he's just having a bath. Heroine questions why he still has his clothes on. He says to undress him (he gets right to the point doesn't he?). Heroine is stunned by his remark, and he tells her that he assumed she went in the bathroom to see him naked (because he's just that sexy). Heroine blushes and denies his assumptions, and says she only wanted a bath. He asks her if she wants to join him, she asks him why she would want to do that. He notes that she is blushing. After a brief awkward silence and the Space Cadet complaining how tired he is, Heroine asks him why he and his brothers are so different, despite being related. The Space Cadet reveals that they have different mothers. He and Glasses have the same mother, Fedora, Ayato, and Emo Shota are triplets with another mom, and Mr.Wonderful also has a different mom.
Isn't he a cutie-pie?
Suddenly, he sinks into the water. Heroine grabs his hand and pulls him out (?). A flashback is triggered.
In said flash back, there's a random guy, a house is burning down, and the Space Cadet is standing with a blank expression on his face. He mutters "Edgar..." (which I assume is the name of the random guy) while enduring this flashback. Suddenly, Heroine's voice can be heard calling the Space Cadet. He wakes up, and Heroine says that he's hurting her (via squeezing her hand a bit too much).
Then, suddenly, he pulls her into the tub (do these guys have a thing for throwing women in water?).
Well, so did I. Turns out, he's just another rapey asshole
He tells her to let him suck her blood. She is stunned by this statement, and Space Cadet is surprised she's frightened. He grabs the back of her head, pulls her forward, and examines her skin. He notices the hickeys from Ayato. He remarks that he's a possessive freak (and you're a bipolar one, haha!). Heroine sulks, saying she thought the he was different, he tells her that he's a vampire (naw, really?!?) and that he shall show her a whole new world (and suddenly the song from Aladdin began to play in my mind).

(Now for the more erotic lines)

He notes that her blood is getting so hot, it could burn him. He says she's getting excited (or more suitably, aroused), and he calls her (I am not kidding) a dirty girl (oooooooOOOh).
He concludes that she's in the house due to her fine quality blood. He then tells her to stay away from him.
She returns to her room, where Ayato is waiting. He demands blood, ignores Heroine's refusal, and then notices the fang marks on her neck. He concludes they belong to the Space Cadet, and he goes to confront him.
You bite Heroine, you bite Ayato. That's the way it works.
He asks the Space Cadet if he's trying to pick a fight with him. Ayato is ignored, gets pissed, and yells at the Space Cadet. He tells Ayato to keep it down. Ayato then (like a real man) challenges the Space Cadet to a rousing game of darts. Space Cadet shoots down the challenge. Suddenly, a wild Fedora appears, and declares Heroine as the prize. Then Glasses comes about, asking what's with all the commotion. Space Cadet states that he couldn't care less about the chick, and to just let him sleep.
Glasses then gets sassy and says that if one were to look up the word "spineless" in the dictionary, you'd find the Space Cadet's photo next to it (OH SNAP!). He says the Space Cadet can't do anything himself, and calls him a deadbeat.
(Then some epic/dramatic music starts playing)
Space Cadet leans up, and accepts the challenge (remember, kids, if you ever want someone to do something for you, mock them).
Space Cadet easily wins the game.
In other words, Heroine = food
He wins a bitch-chan.

Episode rating 5/10 I was disappointed in the Space Cadet. I had faith that he wouldn't be an asshole, but I guess that was just a dream... Still, the episode was entertaining because of all the stupid that happened.
