Final Thoughts on Summer 2013 Anime

The summer anime season has finally concluded, and with it, many good shows and many others that weren't very good. As always, I am here to deliver my final opinions of all the shows included in the summer anime season.

Ongoing Anime:

Gifuu Doudou!!: Kanetsugu to Keiji

I'm a bit shocked that this series got another season. It's just so....boring. The time spent watching this show feels long and dragged out. Not to mention I constantly space out while watching this, so I usually have no idea of what is going on. I just might drop this show sooner or later.

Monogatari Series: Second Season

Well, I'm liking it so far. This season of the Monogatari series has more aspects of the first season, which pleases me greatly. Though, this season of the anime made me realize one thing: Nadeko is extremely annoying. Her innocence, whether intended or not, irks the hell out of me. On the positive side, I have more, non-pedophilic love for Mayoi.

Uchuu Kyoudai

I have to admit, all of this drama with Sharon breaks my heart. Also, the stuff going on with Hibito is quite upsetting as well. This show certainly knows how to play on one's heartstrings. Come to think of it, this is, so far, the longest show I have watched from the beginning while airing. I wonder...how much longer will this show go on?

Completed Anime:

Blood Lad

It was a pretty good series, well-balanced with action and comedy. Bell and Wolf were my personal favorite characters. My only complaints with it are the length of the series (10 episodes is too short!) and the monstrous size of the heroine's breasts.

Brothers Conflict

This show was my ultimate rage and laugh material. I haven't had this much fun watching and talking about an anime in a long time. I'm honestly gonna miss this show, and all of its typical plot and archetype characters. Of course, I'm mostly gonna miss the tranny.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation

This show was very boring. I'm not one who is very fond of moeshit, but damn, this show was even more awful than I expected. When it was boring me, it was giving me a headache. It was literally painful to watch. My saving graces were the vocal talents of Yuu Kobayashi and Kana Hanazawa.

Danganronpa

I have to admit, watching a whole bunch of overly exaggerated anime character archetypes kill each other and do murder trials was quite a promising concept (in my eyes, at least). I mean this show did get a bit out of hand or really weird a few times, but it was certainly an interesting watch.

Fantasista Doll

This show was poorly done. The character interactions are so damn shoddy, it's hard to focus on the plot, which is already difficult to understand. It hardly made any sense to me, but since its aimed toward children, I guess the creators thought it didn't need to make sense.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya

When I saw that this would be a spin-off of the Fate series, I had some...expectations if you will. I mean yes, this is a magical girl spoof thing, but aside from the characters referencing Fate/stay night, this was pretty much a very typical somewhat ecchi magical girl show. The best part, for me anyway, was the opening.

Free!

Swimming with some homosexual undertones. This show goes into the same category as Hakkenden and Makai Ouji, shows that tease shounen ai and/or yaoi. Though, this one was more likeable due to some female characters that were actually significant, and one male character that was genuinely likable (Makoto ♥). Also, the fact that they focused on the swimming more than expected was wonderful.

Gatchaman Crowds

I adored this series. Not only was it colorful and crazy, but it was just generally fun. Sometimes, when watching the show, I wished I was in that universe where reality was treated like a game. It just looked like such a blast (for the most part, anyway). I also absolutely loved the ending.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

This show went from scary, to a broken record, to just...what? Either way, watching this series was a unique experience to say the least. For awhile though, it was the weekly death, it was really frustrating. The characters...Luna kind of creeps me out, Akari is...well, a bit generic, Seira is a tsundere, and Ginka is adorable.

Genshiken Nidaime

Seeing more Genshiken was a treat indeed, but I go by what I had said earlier, I liked the old voice actors better. Unfortunately, having a majority of fujoshi in the club did get a bit annoying at times. Regardless, it was enjoyable.

Gin no Saji

What do you get when you combine farming, school life, and the author of FMA? Pure genius. This show had everything, comedy, drama, great characters, and just a smidge (and only a smidge) of romance. If you didn't watch it this season, then I recommend you add this to your watch list. You shall not regret it.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince

At first, I really didn't like this show. After awhile though, it grew on me. The characters didn't, but the story did. This show had plenty of good and bad elements mixed together, but in the end, I could not possibly say that this show was below average. Sure, it had issues with the animation and a lot of the characters, but everything else (especially the music) was pretty good.

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2nd Season

This was certainly an improvement from the previous season, however, it was pretty much the same thing. Just another show that teases shounen ai, but never gets to the damn point. I'm not extremely fond of these shows, but this one came out pretty decent.

High School DxD New

Action, demons, and lots of boobs. 'Twas just more of the same, but in this case, that's not necessarily a bad thing. They changed it up a bit adding a bit more drama, and two more characters to the main cast, and it remained just as hilarious as before. Though, I think the ending was extremely typical.

Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou

A romantic comedy that features light beastiality. It's a harem-ish show where the lead...is a dog...who used to be human. Surprisingly, this show wasn't awful like I thought it would be. However, it wasn't necessarily anything special either. It had some good moments, but it was generally mediocre.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen

Seeing the Goddesses' arc animated certainly was a treat, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I do have a few complaints though, one of which (I had the same issue with the manga) is that Yui does not appear all that often. Yui is the best, and I'd like to see more of the best.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

This was one of my favorites this season; I absolutely loved it. It had great music, beautiful animation, and a brilliant story. I also loved the characters My only complaint is that this series is incredibly underrated. More people should watch this show, because it was a beautiful series.

Kimi no Iru Machi

The entirety of this adaptation reminded me how much I hated Eba (Yuzuki). Aside from that, it wasn't really done very well. The animation was shoddy, and a lot of the voices were extremely awkward. I did enjoy Asuka and Kyousuke (and sometimes Rin) though.

Kiniro Mosaic

Cute girls doing cute things...with lots of Engrish. I had high hopes for this show after the first episode. I was expecting it to be a modern day Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, but it turned out to be high school girls acting half their age with two exchange students (with some mild yuri undertones). Also, as I mentioned earlier, there was LOTS of Engrish. You'd think they'd hire an actual foreigner to do the job, right? Nope, nope, not at all.

Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku

This was probably the worst show of the season for me. Cute girls doing cute things is already boring most of the time already, but when you combine that with horrible voice acting and dull comedy, you get garbage. This show knew it was bad too, they even tried to end it an episode earlier....

Love Lab

This show certainly surprised me with its quality. I really wasn't expecting much, but this show turned out to be, at least for me, the best comedy series of the season. I also loved the characters, they clicked very well together.

Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist

This series wasn't good, or bad either for that matter. It was half interesting, half hot guys doing things, which pretty much isn't really my cup of tea. It kind of reminded me of this book I was reading called Brideshead Revisited, except with demons and angels. It was just...meh.

Mushibugyou

This show is straight up shounen. Though, that isn't really a problem with me since I really do love shounen series. I was very surprised at how far they were able to take the whole idea of man-eating bugs and...bug...people... Well, it was interesting, to say the least. Also, the Insect Magistrate is absolutely adorable.

Recorder to Randoseru Mi☆

Even though this was a short series, it was enjoyable in its own right. I enjoyed this season of the series a bit more thanks to the addition of some new characters. Also, the animation was cute, but it had derpy moments too.

Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS

Lolis playing basketball against other lolis. I probably would have liked this season a bit more if it wasn't so fanservicy, and if it was just...more interesting in general. I spaced out occasionally while watching this..and it wasn't really difficult to piece together what happened while I was spaced out. This show is pretty simple.

Rozen Maiden: Zurückspulen

Although it was a bit confusing at first, this edition of Rozen Maiden was very much enjoyable. The animation was a step up from the previous Rozen Maiden anime (at least, in my opinion), and we got the addition of the ever so frightening Kirakishou (she's a scary bitch), 'twas a great show. I hope there's a sequel, because that ending left one hell of a cliffhanger.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G

Well, it was certainly an improvement from the first season, but it was still ridiculous and stupid on so many levels. But, I can't really complain. It's not like my expectations for this were high or anything. However, they do get points for using bagpipes in their music this time around (uncommon instruments FTW). Also, the finale was very...sparkly and colorful.

Servant x Service

I really enjoyed this series, mostly for the romance though. The humor was also good, and the cast....I really liked three or four them, I didn't really have any interest in most of them, and a few of them were extremely annoying. Also, I absolutely hated the ending. Still, I enjoyed this show, it was definitely worth the watch.

Shingeki no Kyojin

Ah, yes, the most highly rated anime of this year (so far). I thoroughly enjoyed this, like the vast majority of its audience. It had a simple concept, but with a combination of great characters and gorgeous animation, it was executed in a brilliant manner. However, I'm not going to say that this was my favorite of the year (so far) just to fit in. I enjoyed this show, but there were others I enjoyed more.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu

This show was very...meh. It had good moments, but the main character annoyed the crap out of me. This is the first time in a long time that I just hated the main character. She started out generic, turned into a bitch, then went back to being generic. But hey, everyone else was okay!

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S

I enjoyed this sequel to the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun series a bit more than the first season. Why? Well, for starters, Kuroko wasn't being uber annoying this season. Also, introducing the members of the ITEM team was a plus. However, I'm not very happy that they ended this season with an anime-original arc.

Uchouten Kazoku

This show was certainly unique. I haven't seen a show with characters that seemed this realistic for quite awhile. They seem like folks you'd meet just about anywhere..apart from the tanuki and/or tengu part. The world this took place in, though it's very much like modern day society, is particularly beautiful.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

The fact that half of the entertainment I got out of this show was face-palming doesn't really say anything good about it. However, this show was pretty good. I still don't like the fact that Tomoko has made little to no social progress whatsoever, though.

All in all, summer was a pretty good season for anime. There were many great shows, and definitely some underrated shows amongst them (Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi and Uchouten Kazoku) that should've gotten some more attention. Now we can look forward to the fall anime season, and the greats and the not-so-greats to come.

Brothers Conflict Episode 12 - Rejections, Confessions, and College Acceptance! OH MY!

It certainly narrowed down the size of this ridiculously large harem.
So the episode starts off with the squirrel kind of sort of comforting Heroine about the whole thing with Subaru. Then Doctor-kun comes and tells Heroine that Subaru has made contact with them. He'll be staying at school, and don't worry about him. Doctor-kun also announces that the Molester Monk will be leaving for some temple duties (Heroine's chastity is safer now) and God will also be leaving, to go abroad.

Heroine is somewhat saddened by this, but Doctor-kun states that as long as their home is a place where all of the siblings can always go back to , it's okay. He then gives Heroine a lolipop for being a "good kid" (I got just a little bit of a pedo vibe there).
I love how she uses the same blank expression in any and every situation
Later, she and Classmate-kun go and check and see the results of their university entrance exams. Heroine has been accepted, and Classmate-kun seems to be more excited than she is. He, however, was not as lucky. He vows to pass the next exam and become a student there next year. He is that dedicated to going to the same school as her again.
I think this is the most innocent thing the Molester Monk has said to her in a long time
Later, the Molester Monk comes and congratulates her with a hug. He says he can now "do his ascetic practices with his heart at ease" (???). Heroine is upset that he is leaving to do said practices. Molester Monk says that he should get serious like Heroine did (???), and that he wants t answer he expectations and become a true brother to her (he'll probably still molest her though).

Before he leaves, he asks Heroine to call him "onii-chan" for the last time. Heroine hesitates (as she always does), and he shrugs it off, saying it was a joke. As he walks away, she tells him to have a safe trip and calls him onii-chan. You can see that his heart is warmed by this.
Dude, I forgot you existed while you were still living at the house.
Your future, at least in my memories, does not look very bright.
Heroine also talks to God about his leaving. He asks her to take care of his flowers. More specifically, his forget-me-nots. He then asks her not to forget about him (CHEEESYYY). Heroine then says that she couldn't possibly forget about him. He then smiles like a creeper while chimes sound, and says that it would be great to meet her again with a smile (???).

After a semi-heart warming scene where Hippie-kun comforts Heroine over her "brothers" leaving, Tsubaki and Azusa ask her to go to the amusement park (with both of them....at the same time...).
The fact that they said it at the same time is a little bit creepy
After a day of fun in the amusement park, Heroine and the twins are enjoying a lovely view. Heroine thinks of this as the perfect time to reject both of them simultaneously. After her family-zoning them, they say in unision that they still love her, and each of them kisses one of her hands.

After arriving home, Heroine looks very perturbed. She ponders whether or not she conveyed her feelings properly. When suddenly--
SURPRISE!
Jock-kun has returned! But only temporarily. He talks with Heroine about the punching issue (Again? Really?), and how he knows he should apologize to Ginger-kun (this is not news to us, Jock-kun), but he doesn't really want to. He also acknowledges that his actions were completely for his own benefit (no shit, Sherlock). He says he doesn't know how much he may have hurt Heroine(jeez, doesn't even give a shit about his brother) and apologizes to her. After he's done he starts leaving. Heroine thanks him for talking to her about it. Then he says some stuff about becoming a true man and hugs her, then kisses her on the forehead.
Miracles really do happen!
Later, the brothers throw a party for Classmate-kun and Heroine's graduation. The brothers, as usual, make Classmate-kun take the backseat to Heroine. There's a knock on the door, Classmate-kun answers it. It turns out, by some miracle, I got himself a Supplemental Pass. After asking a couple of questions in disbelief, Classmate-kun collapses. He makes a speech about his inferiority complex, and how now he won't give up anymore.

While enjoying the feast that the brothers prepared, Heroine receives a call from Idol-kun. He pretty much confesses to her over a TV broadcast, but in a way that couldn't be noticed by his fans. The brothers roll their eyes about it, and someone shuts off the TV. The identity of the one who had done this remains unknown.
Boy, all these guys are rather persistent
Later Heroine attempts to family-zone Ginger-kun. However, all does not go as planned once again, when Ginger-kun tells her he still loves her, and even kisses her.
Afterwards, he apologizes to her, and walks away (like an ass).

Tranny-kun bears witness to all this.
Please don't, I love you too much to lose you
Tranny-kun is astounded at how Heroine manages to confess in such a way that leaves the brothers with a bit of hope. Tranny-kun shows Heroine his Microsoft Excel chart for the brothers conflict. Since this "conflict" is over, he sets fire to it, and tells her to enjoy her time at peace. He tells her when the next conflict starts, he shall participate as well (noooooooo!).

In the last bits of the episode, each of the conflicting pairs of brothers are challenging each other all over again.

Then for the last time, we see this:
They would end the show with this

Episode rating 6.5/10 It was pretty decent, a little bit disappointing though.
Overall this show was a 6/10 for me. It went nowhere, but damn, this show was so bad it was good. The cliché plot, the archetype characters, and the sheer number of people in this harem made it loads of fun to watch.

Well, it's been fun, guys. I hope you enjoyed my blog posts about this series. I will be posting my final thoughts on the summer anime season once all of the shows have concluded. I also just may start blogging another ridiculous looking show or two, but who knows.

Thanks for reading everybody!

Brothers Conflict Episode 11 - Exams and Jock-kun Drama

I can see it now..."...Siblings" the Musical!
So the introductions are back to "normal" now (which is certainly an unfortunate turn of events). This was another episode I'm afraid I wasn't too fond of.
Way to rub it in, shota.
Heroine is in a bit of a pickle, her grades have been dropping since the trip (I guess doki doki fun time does that to you), and to cheer her up by preparing a feast (because food is the solution to all problems). Of course, being the tact master that he is, the shota voiced by Yuki Kaji blatantly says why, even though Lawyer-kun and Doctor-kun were trying to keep it on the down low.

Heroine says she has backup plans, but that simply will NOT do for Classmate-kun. He tells her not to give up, and encourages her by saying so. Of course, following his speech his family tell him that he is the last person to be lecturing anyone about this. He is apparently so hopeless when it comes to exams that his family has lost faith in him (I pity Classmate-kun).

There is also a part where the shota gives her coupons for his time and affection.
I will say it again.
He is not cute.
To your feelings. Heroine has no feelings.
Later, Tsubaki and Azusa are heading out, and Heroine walks in. Tsubaki goes ahead to make a phone call. Azusa proceeds to tell Heroine how Tsubaki has changed (for the better, of course), and then tells her that he wants an answer to his confession. Not now of course (I'm guessing all the replies will be saved for the last episode...?), but around the time she's done with her exams. He says he will accept her reply, no matter what it is (hopefully he'll hold true to these words).
There never was a you and her in the first place
Also, look! Same pose as the picture above.
Then we have Jock-kun. He's dressed up today, because he's going to get a look at Kyuushu. He tells Heroine that he unfortunately will not be back for her exams, and unfortunately cannot help her (is he smart? He seems kind of like a meathead to me). He then says that she can forget about the things between them for the time being (it seems that he is unaware that half of their family is trying to get into her pants).

The day of exams arrives, exams happen (nothing too significant in between, apart from a flower from God and a promise of a "reward" from Ginger-kun). Later, she is sitting beneath a tree, sighing because she lacks confidence.

The Molester Monk, as always, is using this (just as he would use anything) as an excuse to molest the Heroine. Heroine makes note of her gift of an Iris from Iori (AKA God), and Molester Monk takes his leave. He passes by God.
Why, of course you do! Practically everyone does at this point!
Of course, this flower has some super secret meaning of love! Oh...how the mighty have fallen.

Later, as promised previously, Ginger-kun rewards Heroine with a trip to some cafe within an indoor amusement park...thing (I honestly am having trouble figuring out what that place was). They discuss video games for a bit (Heroine is a hard core gamer, guys), and then...Jock-kun. More specifically, his success, and Ginger-kun looks so proud!

After being driven home by him, Heroine thanks Ginger-kun, family-zones him, and takes her leave. As she walks away, Ginger-kun pulls her from behind, and while in the process of confessing...
A WILD JOCK-KUN HAS APPEARED.
NOT THE FACE!
Jock-kun uses punch, but it is not super effective. Ginger-kun completes his confession, and Jock-kun gets even more pissed. He says he "won't lose" to Ginger-kun who "already ran away once." And marches off.
While Heroine treats his face wound, Ginger-kun explains to her that he used to be in track, and Jock-kun admired him for that. However, he quit, and played it cool, never explaining to Jock-kun why he quit. He does, however, admire how Jock-kun has gotten so far by his own power.

Ginger-kun does tell the Heroine that he would like to hear a reply to his confession whenever possible (two confessions in one episode? Crazy stuff!).

Heroine goes to Jock-kun's door (he doesn't let her in because he's all flared up) and tells him that Ginger-kun admired his accomplishments.
I pity him, I really do
In the dead of night, Jock-kun sets off, Heroine stops him. Jock-kun says that he never really knew how Ginger-kun felt until Heroine told him. He tells her that he has been childish, and hurting his brother, in front of Heroine, no less. He tells her to forget everything he's said to her up to that point in time, and that he can't make her happy the way he is now. Heroine watches him walk away, and tears up a bit (A SIGN OF EMOTION?!?!?).

At the end of the episode, we see Classmate-kun vowing to confess to Heroine once he's passed his exams. Will he really do it?!?

Episode rating 5/10 Way too sappy for my taste and the shota talked way too much in the beginning, but the squirrel didn't talk much and we have (temporarily) eliminated one member of the harem.
